It's the Little Things...

If you look at a simple job description, being a caregiver may seem like a pretty straightforward vocation. Household tasks, running errands, preparing meals, and assisting with daily activities are things all of us do in our homes and families to one degree or another. But at Caring Hearts, we believe that it’s something else that makes the difference between completing tasks and giving care.

All of our professional caregivers share this commitment. It’s a commitment not only to the well-being and peace of mind of the families we serve, but also to the dignity of the loved ones they entrust with us. We asked a few of the caring professionals in our network about this difference, and Vanessa was generous enough to share her experience with us.

Caregiver Spotlight: Vanessa Baines, Caring Hearts of Rockwall, Dallas, Texas

How long have you been a caregiver?

Technically, about half of my life, but professionally since 2009.

Why did you become a caregiver?

There’s always going to be a need for people who really care about people and their ability to live their own lives. I’ve always had an interest in doing something that helped people and caregiving lets me do that because I can help with things they can’t always do for themselves.

What was your first experience in caregiving?

I had an elderly family member. When she was diagnosed with cancer, she needed support not just for herself but for her child.

What qualities make an exceptional caregiver?

Compassion. You need to treat people with dignity and respect. It’s the little things that bring a smile to their faces and lift their spirits.

Favorite saying?

Treat others how you would like to be treated.

Vanessa Baines was recommended by her colleagues and the families she serves every day.  We thank her for her commitment to our clients and for her example of being “your extended family when family can't be there.”
