Dedicated caregiver helps virginia family through tough times

Today, Caring Hearts would like to spotlight a caregiver whose dedication to her work has made a true difference for a family in Virginia.

Agnes Freeman, a caregiver with David Silverman’s Caring Hearts of Northern Virginia, has earned the Caring Hearts Caregiver of the 1st Quarter 2014 award for her extraordinary work with a client of 3 years who recently passed away.

This client began as a companion case and steadily progressed into personal care. Agnes enjoyed taking her on walks and to the movies and going with her to appointments.

5 months ago, her client’s ability to walk had deteriorated and she could no longer leave the house. Agnes was a constant presence through this time, assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs) and helping as much as she could. Agnes learned to use the Hoyer patient lift to hoist the client between resting places and learned other necessary equipment and therapies to improve her quality of life as well.

As time passed, she began to help coordinate with hospice.

Communicating with the family – 3 sons, and their wives and grandchildren – was an important role during this time. These family members have frequently commented on how, through this journey, Agnes became a part of the family.

In the end, Agnes was there when her client passed away. She helped the family coordinate the service and they asked her to stay at the house for an extra week so she could grieve and help prepare the house for sale. At the funeral, one of the son’s included Agnes in the eulogy, a testament to how they regarded her care for their mom.

Agnes exhibits the compassion and dedication our caregivers strive for. She is a smart and caring employee who puts her clients’ needs first, and she is well-deserving of this award!

We would like to also congratulate another exceptional nominated caregiver:

  • Maria Velazquez of Mary and Mike Doepke’s Caring Hearts of Hinsdale office

The compassion of our caregivers continues to inspire us each and every day. We would like to thank caregivers everywhere for continuing to make a difference in so many lives.
