Saluting Entrepreneurs and Business Owners This Labor Day Weekend!

Originating out of the Labor Movement in the late 19th century, Labor Day has long been celebrated as a tribute to the contributions and achievements made by the country’s hardworking men and women in the labor force.

And while America’s working class is certainly well deserving of this honor, I’d like to take this opportunity to salute the entrepreneurs and business owners who make it all possible, and in some cases, are the hardest workers of us all!

It is because of their ambition, courage, and drive that we have companies to work for and a labor force to celebrate! As the daughter of a business owner, and the President of a national home healthcare franchise, I know how much time and effort it takes to get a business up and running efficiently.

It is an ongoing process that requires constant refinement, but it is well worth the effort when you succeed in reaching your goal.

First, you need a strong support network of family and friends who are willing and able to help you overcome the day-to-day challenges you will inevitably face, both professionally and personally. When you think you’ve hit a wall, they’ll be there to cheer you on, and when you succeed, they’ll be there to congratulate you and to celebrate!

Next, you need to develop and follow a system. If you decide to invest in a franchise, the system has already been developed for you, and that’s over half the battle! Pair that with a steadfast confidence in your ability and resolve, and the next step is simple – work your plan! Make it happen!

All successful business owners require a certain level of discipline that drives them to continually strive to be better. Complacency is not an option. There is always room for improvement, and the sooner you recognize this, the better for you and your business.

By knowing the facts and numbers of your industry and business, you will know where exactly you stand in relation to your competition, as well as your end goal. This is imperative, as it allows you to develop an action plan to get there.

Finally, surround yourself with a circle of advisors. Just as there is always room for improvement within your business, there is always room for improvement within yourself as a strategic leader, problem-solver and decision-maker. Adopt the mindset of a lifelong learner, and you and your business will go far!

So this weekend, as you celebrate your time off work with friends and family, take a minute to thank the men and women who have chosen the path less traveled – that of a business owner. Their entrepreneurial spirit should serve as an inspiration to us all!
